Why I built QuitSub

I paid for the fix. It wanted my bank and my passwords.

I built this because I was fed up.

Cancelling subscriptions is hard on purpose. They bury the button, they make you call, they hit you with "are you sure?" screens built to wear you down — and between work and life, it's so easy to forget and let another month slide by. I had charges I'd been paying for years without realizing.

So I paid for Rocket Money. First catch: you can't even use it without connecting your bank — at least one account, through Plaid — just to get in the door. And what did that get me? Something that mostly felt like a glorified bank statement: the charges I could already see. The only thing it actually put in front of me to make them stop was "let us cancel it for you" — which means handing over the username and password to every account you want gone.

Rocket Money's own help page, on cancelling your Amazon Prime: you "enter the email address and password linked to the Amazon Prime account."

If there was a way to do it myself, it was buried so deep that I — a paying customer — never found it. So my options were: keep bleeding, or hand a company the logins to every account I was trying to escape. Hard pass.

Do I have to connect my bank?

No — and we'll never ask you to. You download a CSV from your bank and drop it in. That's the whole point: your data stays with you, not on our servers. It's the opposite of how the big apps work.

Why isn't it free like Rocket Money or my bank?

Because those aren't really free — you pay with your data. They require your bank login and keep your transaction history on their servers, and that data is what they monetize. We never require your bank login and your statement never leaves your browser, so there's nothing for us to sell — which means the tool itself has to pay for itself. What does the Concierge actually do — do they see my bank?
